DRAGON'S BACK HIKE
HIKING THE RIDGE THAT RESEMBLES A SLEEPING DRAGON

Named "The Best of Asia" by prestigious publications like Lonely Planet and Times, and highly recommended by CNN, the Dragon's Back is one of Hong Kong Island's most celebrated hiking trails. Ideal for beginners, this trail offers breathtaking views and a unique outdoor experience.

The Slumbering Oriental Dragon

Though many people may not be familiar with the name "Hong Kong Trail Stage 8," they likely know its popular nickname, "Dragon's Back." This picturesque ridge resembles a sleeping dragon and offers stunning sea views that are a rare sight in the city. Located in the eastern part of Hong Kong Island, Dragon's Back has attracted numerous travelers and locals, and it often serves as a backdrop for film and music video shoots.

The 8km trail takes approximately 3 hours to complete, depending on your pace. With gentle slopes, proper toilets, maps, and signs along the way, the 284-meter mountain is suitable for beginners and families. There are a few stairs and minimal shade in the first half of the trail, so be sure to apply sunscreen and bring at least 2 liters of water to stay hydrated.

How to Get There

To reach the starting point, take bus No. 9 from Shau Kei Wan MTR Station exit A3 or the red minibus from exit A2. If you choose the minibus, remember to tell the driver "To Tei Wan Yau Lok" so they know when to stop. The ride takes about 30 minutes, after which you will see public toilets at the trail entrance.
