Are you seeking a relaxing afternoon spent sipping a drink with a stunning view? Look no further than Beesy Bay, an adorable yellow establishment perched on the corner of the famous Stanley boardwalk. Overlooking the picturesque Stanley Bay, Beesy Bay provides a serene atmosphere in the heart of the bustling, westernized town.
Originally constructed as two separate houses in 1948 and 1951, the building was converted into a restaurant in the 1970s. Its land deed dates back to January 26th, 1841, a testament to the historical roots of the location. While many interior elements have been updated for the restaurant, the building's exterior has become an iconic symbol of Stanley.
The early post-war architecture of this building has become increasingly rare as Stanley Main Street undergoes rapid development with modern high-rise buildings. Houses No. 86 and No. 88, despite various modifications over time, have maintained their authenticity as structures built in the early 1950s. Notably, the Art Deco-style staircase, complete with vintage handrails, has been largely preserved.
On March 4, 2015, the Antiquities and Monuments Office of the HKSAR Government designated houses No. 86 and No. 88 as Grade III Historic Buildings. Beesy Bay maybe the only restaurant in Hong Kong housed within an entire historic building. Thus, a visit to Beesy Bay not only satisfies your appetite but also offers a unique opportunity to appreciate the well-preserved historic and architectural elements while enjoying food and drinks.
