THE BLAKE PIER
A FAMED PIER FOR THE COLONIAL GOVERNORS AND ROYAL DIGNITARIES

The Blake Pier, originally known as Peddar Wharf, was built in 1900 at the end of Peddar Street in Central Hong Kong. The pier served as a landing place for new colonial governors and royal dignitaries and witnessed many significant events in the city's history. Initially a roofless pier, it was later topped with an Edwardian-style iron-steel roof to provide travelers with comfort from the heat and rains.

Due to the rapid urban development in the area, the pier has undergone several relocations. It was dismantled and rebuilt in situ in 1965, but was again demolished in the 1990s to make way for the reclamation work of the Central waterfront. However, the pier's iconic iron roof was preserved and transferred to Morse Park in Wong Tai Sin, where it served as a replacement for the cover of a pavilion. Four decades later, it was moved to Stanley and used as the cover of the present-day Blake Pier.

While the scenery of the Murray House and the pier evokes feelings of the old colonial zone, it may be challenging to understand its historical context in its present location.

Nevertheless, the public pier is still in use and can even take you to Po Toi Island, which sits at the southernmost tip of Hong Kong and offers exceptionally beautiful scenery of the southern waters and unique-looking rocks. Spending 4-5 hours exploring nature between your Stanley day trip is worthwhile. However, on Sundays and public holidays, there are fewer ferry departures from Stanley. In addition, be sure to catch the last return ferry, and round-trip tickets can be purchased on the ferry.
