The Stanley Promenade is a charming boardwalk that runs along the picturesque Stanley Bay, connecting most of the major spots in Stanley. Hosting an array of al fresco dining places, the promenade is dotted with small boats, creating a romantic ambiance that is loved by locals and tourists alike. You can take a leisurely walk with your cute pets, sip a beer at one of the bars that set up patio outdoor umbrellas or take pictures with the colonial heritage settings.
Apart from the Murray House and Blake Pier at one end, Stanley Plaza houses a variety of cute stores and fancy restaurants that you can enjoy. It also hosts themed handicraft markets on an occasional basis, and the most famous one has to be the Christmas Market, where thousands of citizens flock to admire the beautiful festive decorations and purchase local handmade products.
As you head east towards the Stanley Back Beach, you will notice a line of eight red brick houses topped with Chinese tiled roofs at the other end of the promenade. Named "Pat Kan Uk," which literally means "eight houses," these homes are Grade 3 historic buildings, providing a stark contrast to the westernized town. The British government built them to settle the villagers as compensation who were affected by their plans to build barracks around Wong Ma Kok to respond to the Japanese Invasion. A reminder that the houses are still in use, so please avoid causing any disturbance to the residents.
