There are numerous locations in Hong Kong where you can see a beautiful sunset, but none is like the one at Braemar Hill. Here gives you a view from the top towards the west where the sun sets between the two tallest buildings in Hong Kong, IFC, and ICC, right into the Victoria Harbour. Most importantly, it’s only 20 minutes away from the bus terminal!

The Journey

Take the minibus 25 from Causeway Bay and get off at the terminus station – Braemer Hill. Cross the road and enter the path next to St. Joan of Arc Secondary School. After going up the stairs, keep to your right and follow the path until you reach a junction. Turn right and follow the ribbons on the trees to go uphill where you will see several big boulders. Find your way through the boulders and get on top of one of them. The gorgeous view of Hong Kong is just right below your feet. Get a spot and wait for the magic moment to come. 

Cross the road and enter the path next to St. Joan of Arc Secondary School

After going up the stairs,

keep to your right and follow the path until you reach a junction.

Here is the Junction, turn right, 

follow the ribbons on the trees to go uphill.

You may wish to start the hike an hour before sunset such that you will have at least 30 min admiring the sun to change its bright colour into the gorgeous “salted egg yolk”, as local described it. As the sun sets, the city starts to dress up. With an extra 30 to 45 minutes, the sky will be completely dark and the buildings will be covered in dazzling lights. 

When you leave, retrace your steps back to the bus terminus and head into the city for dinner.  Do remember to put on some mosquito repellent and bring the light torch. The mosquitoes start their feast as the sky gets dark.
