Looking for a traditional breakfast spot in central? Look no further than Law Fu Kee. Established in the 1950s, Law Fu Kee (羅富記) has preserved its recipe and decor for decades. As a congee specialist, Law Fu Kee excels in this culinary art.
The congee is meticulously prepared overnight, resulting in a smooth and creamy texture. All the congee is made using the "raw boiled" (生滾粥) method, where the ingredients are brought to a boil in the congee base upon ordering. With a wide variety of ingredients to choose from, one of the local favorites is the Pig Giblets Congee (及第粥), featuring various giblets including blood and liver. For a milder option, try the Grass Carp Belly Congee (魚腩粥), known for its fresh and smooth taste. Be sure to arrive in the morning, as the deep-fried Chinese breadsticks (油條), a popular congee accompaniment, tend to sell out by lunchtime.
Apart from the delicious congee, Law Fu Kee is renowned for its Deep Fried Dace Balls (鯪魚球). The fish is grounded into a paste and deep-fried to perfection. To enhance the experience, dip the dace balls in the fresh and savory clam sauce (蜆蚧醬). While the fishy taste may not suit everyone's palate, it remains a favorite for many. In fact, the dish was so beloved that the shop created a neon light sign extending from the entrance to attract customers. Although the sign was taken down a few years ago due to structural restrictions, it will be preserved in a museum. However, this hasn't stopped people from seeking out and savoring this delicacy. Give it a try and see if it suits your taste.
