MID-LEVELS ESCALATOR AND WALKWAY SYSTEM
THE LONGEST WALKWAY IN THE WORLD

If you're considering a visit to Hong Kong, don't miss out on a ride on the Central Mid Levels Escalator - a testament to the city's unique blend of tradition and modernity. This is not just any escalator, but the world's longest outdoor covered escalator system in the Guinness World Records, stretching over 800 meters and rising 135 meters through the heart of Hong Kong.

Located in the Central district, the Mid Levels Escalator system offers an unusual, yet enjoyable, way to explore the city. It was primarily built to facilitate an easy commute for locals residing in the Mid Levels, but it has since become an attraction that visitors must experience.

As you ascend or descend, you will pass through a vivid tapestry of Hong Kong's daily life, a fascinating intersection of old and new. The escalator traverses a variety of neighborhoods, each with its own character and charm, offering glimpses into local culture and lifestyle that you wouldn't get from a regular tour bus.

From Modernity to Tradition: A Changing Landscape

Starting from the Central Market, the Mid-Levels Escalator begins its ascent.

At the lower levels, you'll glide through streets brimming with modernity. Witness the hustle and bustle of the financial district, gliding past high-end boutiques and towering skyscrapers. The escalator provides a unique perspective on the rapid pace of life in one of the world's most important economic hubs.

As you rise, the scene gradually transits. Modern high-rises give way to older buildings, street markets, and hole-in-the-wall restaurants. And do not miss the finger-licking dishes from Lan Fong Yuen!

Try to get off and walk around Hollywood Road, and you can head to PMQ and Tai Kwun to explore the renovated historical building. Kung Lee Sugar Cane Drink would be the oasis in the desert on hot summer days while the beef brisket from Kau Kee Food Cafe can save your hungry soul. Pak Tsz Lane Park, being part of the Sun Yat-sen Historical Lane, is a not-to-miss for history lovers. Moreover, you can effortlessly discover the hidden gems of antique shops and art galleries, or explore the hip, quirky neighborhood of Sheung Wan while wandering around the community.

Do not forget the Soho district, where streets like Elgin and Staunton offer an eclectic mix of international restaurants, boutique bars, and unique shops. Spend a chill night and grab a drink with friends at The Globe, Peel 65 and Peel Fresco would be a great experience too.

The escalator journey ends at Conduit Road in the Mid Levels, a more residential and quiet area. Pass by the oldest mosque in Hong Kong, the Jamia Mosque, before reaching Caine Road, where the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Museum is located.

But the adventure does not stop there. Many of Hong Kong's renowned hiking trails, such as the Peak Trail, are just a stone's throw away. You can even walk up to the Peak if you want to burn extra calories.
